Scott Ligare Scott Ligare was born in Park City , Utah in 1977. He grew up in the mountains with a group of friends that he still refers to as his best friends today. The group would spend time camping, swimming and skiing until they were introduced to kayaking at the age of 15. At age 16 they were able to drive to different rivers around the west and kayaking soon became the focus of Scott's life. He went to college at the University of Utah , Montana State University and College of the Redwoods before graduating from Humboldt State University with a degree in Environmental Engineering. For his graduation present his father Tom gave him a camera and some lessons on how to use it. At that time Tom was teaching at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara , CA . Photography soon became a passionate hobby for Scott; he would take his camera everywhere. In 2003 Scott was asked to teach Photography and Videography for World Class Kayak Academy based in Missoula , Montana , which he did for 3 semesters. This position allowed him to combine his passion of kayaking with his passion of photography.
In the summer of 2004 Scott started making a living taking photos of rafting on the American and Tuolumne rivers in California . This was yet another way for him to combine his passions and allow him to take photos of his favorite subject: water. Scott's style of photography evolved over the last three summers living on the river to encompass all of “river life”. “River life” includes people, kayaking, rafting, fishing, camping, water, wildlife, and the adventure of searching for whitewater.
Scott's images have been purchased by outdoor equipment manufacturers such as Kavu, Kokatat, Whitewater Research and Safety Institute. His images have been published in magazines such as Outside, Rapid, Paddler and Kayak Magazine.
